SCOUTS CHOICE
Whether you’re looking to earn the Scout Carolina Patch, pursuing an Eagle Scout or Silver award, or simply want to give back to your state parks, Battle of Rivers Bridge State Historic Site offers several meaningful service projects.
Most projects require at least 2 weeks' advance notice, and Project #4 will require additional planning time due to its complexity. Be sure to coordinate with park staff in advance.
PROJECT #1 SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE THE SIGNS!
Type: Group Project | Scout Carolina Patch Qualifier
Help keep our battlefield and memorial grounds looking their best! Clean up the waysides at the battlefield and Memorial grounds with water and washrags. The interpretive waysides at Battle of Rivers Bridge tirelessly share their information with visitors 24/7, in all weather conditions… they sure do get dirty though.
Great for younger groups or first-time volunteers!
PROJECT #2 SWING FOR THE FENCES
Type: Group Project | Scout Carolina Patch Qualifier
Help stain the fence around the battlefield parking lot to keep the park looking sharp. We'll provide gloves, brushes, and stain—just wear old clothes and bring your friends!
Note: This project may be postponed due to rainy weather.
PROJECT #3 TRAILBLAZERS
Type: Group Project | Scout Carolina Patch Qualifier
Work with park staff to literally blaze a trail as you touch up the site’s nature trail with fresh blazes to help hikers stay on course!
PROJECT #4 PROFESSOR SPROUT
Type: Eagle Scout Project or Silver Award Project
Dive into botany and history! Coordinate with park staff to research, design, and install interpretive signage for native plants used for commercial or medicinal purposes during the 19th century! This is a more advanced project that requires planning, historical research, and creativity, but your work will educate future visitors for years to come.
**For more information about these projects, contact the Park Staff at (803) 683-0239 or email us at Rbridgesp@scprt.com. Waivers & Volunteer agreements will be required for all projects. *To qualify for the Scout Carolina Patch, Volunteers must camp overnight, complete a service project, and interview a park ranger. A campground is located nearby at Barnwell State Park.
