Things To Do

  • Fishing Information: Enjoy fishing in one of the four park lakes or the South Fork of the Edisto River for bream, bass and catfish. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.

  • Tackle Loaner Program: This park participates in the Tackle Loaner Program sponsored by the SC Dept. of Natural Resources. Rods and reels are available for loan at the park office.

  • Boating and Boat Access: Private boats are allowed on the South Fork of the Edisto River. River access is available at the state park boat landing.

  • Fishing Boat Rentals: Non-motorized fishing boats rent for $15/day. Check weather conditions at park before arrival. No rentals in poor conditions. Check with park staff for river level and conditions.
    November-February call to make an appointment.

  • Canoe/Kayak Rentals: Canoes are available for rent at the park for $15/trip. This includes life jackets and paddles. See River Rental Rules and Regulations.

    Canoes are rented at the following times: Monday, Thursday and Friday at 10am and noon; and Saturday and Sunday at 10am, noon and 2pm. Please meet at the canoe take-out dock at scheduled times for shuttle. No rentals after last float time.

    Aiken State Park also boasts a 1.7-mile canoe trail on which you can enjoy paddling your own canoe or a rental boat.

  • Swimming: The swimming area at Aiken State Park is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The area is swim at your own risk and there is no lifeguard on duty. Dogs are prohibited in and around the swimming area.
  • Bird Watching: There are areas of the park that are ideal for bird watching. Interesting birds that can be seen include egrets, heron and various birds of prey.

  • Geocaching: Geocaching is permitted. Several geocaches are located on the park. For more information and location of these caches visit the official geocaching website.
