Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten or harass wildlife. Pets are not allowed in or around lodging facilities.

Does this park have cabins or villas?

There are no cabins or villas at Aiken State Park.  The nearest state park with cabins is Barnwell State Park.

Does this park have campsites for overnight camping?

There are 25 campsites with electric and water and a primitive camping area for organized groups.  Please click on the CAMPING menu item on the right to see detailed camping information. What types of activities are available at this park?

Is swimming available at this park?

Swimming is permitted in the designated swimming area at Aiken State Park.  The swimming area is open seasonally.

What type of fish are most often caught at the park?

Largemouth bass, bream and redbreast are most often caught when fishing at Aiken State Park.

How long is the canoe trail?

The canoe trail, located on the Edisto River, is 1.75 miles long.  You can enjoy paddling your own canoe or rent one from the park.

What times may canoes be rented at the park?

All boat rentals must be made a day in advance by calling or emailing the park. Renters are responsible for providing their own transportation. Due to the distance between the put-in and take-out locations, we recommend that renters bring two vehicles and park one at the take-out dock prior to beginning the paddle. No shuttle service is available.

May I drink water from the artesian well?

Yes, you may drink water from the artesian well located on the park.

Who constructed the stonework and buildings throughout the park?

Aiken State Park was built during the Great Depression by an African-American detachment of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Interpretive signage tells their story and their work can still be seen in some of the park’s original structures and features.

What are the names of the three lakes at Aiken State Park?

The lake in the picnic area is known as the Children's Pond, Fish Lake is located near the Fish Lake Shelter and Cabin Lake is located across State Park Road.

How did Aiken State Park get its name?

Aiken State Park is named after Aiken County, the county in which it is located.

Where is the park’s Ultimate Outsider stamp located?

The park's Ultimate Outsider stamp is located at the park office to the right of the front door in a wooden box.
