Jayson Sellers
Park Manager
Welcome to Black River State Park, one of South Carolina’s newest State Parks, and it’s first linear park. My name is Jayson Sellers, and I am the park manager. I’m excited to be working with so many dedicated partners to protect these beautiful natural and cultural treasures while welcoming visitors from near and far.
One of my goals for the new Black River State Park is to initiate educational opportunities through hands-on experiences. After more than 20 years as a S.C. State Park Ranger, I can’t think of a better place to “launch” such a meaningful effort than right here along the scenic Black River.
One of my favorite features of Black River State Park is the uniqueness of the river as you travel from the start of the Black River Water Trail to the banks of the High Bluffs. It’s an awesome experience with spectacular views that’s destined to create memories for the entire family.
As we move forward to opening our first tract, The Meadows, we hope that you will check back frequently for any updates and progress. I look forward to seeing you on the river bends soon!
Black River State Park is the first linear park in South Carolina, providing access to over 70 miles of water trails. The Meadows is the first of several locations within the park to open for public use. It features newly constructed public parking, a canoe and kayak launch, restrooms and a covered pavilion with views of the river.
The Black River is designated as a South Carolina Scenic River, named for its tannin-stained waters, which flow from the surrounding swamps in the watershed. Whether you’re paddling quietly along the cypress-lined riverbank or exploring the plants and wildlife on the Nature Trail, the Meadows at Black River State Park offers experiences that will create lifelong memories for you and your family.
