PARK ADVISORY

Santee State Park Road Paving Alert

Roadwork and repaving of the East Entrance Road leading to the Lakeshore campground will be occurring through August 2026. Please use caution when driving on the East Entrance Road as only one lane will be open at a time.

Please be aware of the following potential impacts:

• Noise related to construction

• Traffic delays entering or leaving the park for brief periods of time

• Possible disruption of water or electricity for brief periods of time, should a line be broken by heavy equipment

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!

Campers, please be advised:  If you have a camping reservation, you do not need to check-in at the office.  You may go directly to your campsite.  Our park rangers or campground host will come by during patrols and check you in at that time.  Thanks for your assistance.

There is an electric vehicle charging station for use by visitors at the park.

Unique Features

  • Significant Features: Many sinkholes are located throughout the park. The sinkholes are a naturally-occurring phenomenon caused when the limestone underneath the surface erodes away and the ground opens up.

The cypress forest located in the middle of the lake have been there since the lake was built. These cypress trees have flourished in the middle of the lake and are a distinguishing feature of the park.

  • Wildlife: Unique animals you may encounter include alligators, the fox squirrel and the land-locked striped bass while at the park.
