Croft is CLOSED until further notice.


The bridge to access the Southside Trail System is open!  The new bridge restores access to the park land that the creek divides, reconnecting roughly 20 miles of hiking and biking trails in the Southside Trail System to the rest of the park, and completing the portion of the Palmetto Trail that runs through Croft.

Is the pool open at Croft State Park?

The pool at Croft is not open.  It closed in 2002.

Is there a swimming area at the park?

There is no swimming area at the park.  However, we have a very nice area located just off of the PalmettoTrail along Fair Forest Creek.  This area will not accommodate swimming, but it is a great place to cool off during the hot summer days. For more information please ask a park ranger or contact the park directly.

What types of activities are available at Croft?

The park offers outdoor recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages. Our 7,054-acre park offers camping, boating, fishing and 50+ miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding.  We also have facilities for picnicking, a playground and canoe and jon boat rentals.  Rental facilities are also available for your organized events.  Check out our website for more information or contact the park directly.

Where is the park located?

Croft State Park is located at 450 Croft State Park Rd. in Spartanburg.  Coming from Spartanburg, take Hwy. 56E approximately 5 miles to Dairy Ridge Rd.  The park is located 3/10 of a mile down Dairy Ridge Rd. on the right.

Is a Coggins test required for my horse?

A Coggins test is required on the park. Please bring your papers with you to the park. For further information (crossing state lines) please visit the South Carolina Equine Import Requirements. You may also read the South Carolina Animal Health Laws and Regulations.

When will Lake Johnson reopen?

Lake Johnson was closed Sept. 2011 to improve the fish quality within the lake.  The lake is NOW  OPEN for fishing.

Are any horses available to rent and ride?

Croft State Park has a horse stall facility that accommodates up to 51 horses for overnight boarding.  The park also offers 25+ miles of equestrian trails.  Unfortunately, we do not provide horses for our visitors and we do not have any available for rent.  Horseback riders must bring their own horses.

If we rent a picnic shelter, do our guests have to pay admission?

Yes. Croft State Park has three picnic shelters available for rent. Each of these shelters varies in size with two providing electricity.  The rental cost is only for reserving the shelter for the day and does not include admission. Those renting the shelter and all of their guests are required to pay park admission.

Is the park open year round, and what are the park hours?

Croft State Park is open 365 days/year. Park hours for EST are 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.  During daylight savings time park hours are extended to 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.  The park office is open from 11 a.m. - noon and 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., daily.

Does the park have boats for rent?

Yes, the park rents jon boats for $15 per hour or $25 for the day. The park also rents single kayaks for $10/hour and tandem kayaks for $15/hour. Life jackets and paddles are provided. Trolling motors are allowed but not provided by the park. Visitors are welcome to bring personal boats, but no gasoline engines are allowed on the lake.

How many campsites does the park have and what is provided with the rental?

Croft State Park has two campgrounds with 25 sites each. All sites have water and electricity.  The office campground has 20/30 amp service and the lake campground has 20/30/50 amp service. There are no sewer hookups in either campground; however, there is a centrally-located dump station for campers.

Is wi-fi available at the park?

Wifi is available for visitors to use outside of the park office.

Where is the park’s Ultimate Outsider stamp located?

Our Ultimate Outsider stamp is located at the park kiosk just outside the park office. The park office is about three miles down from the main gate.
