Park Manager

Bryn Harmer

Park Manager

Welcome.  My name is Bryn Harmer, and I am the park manager at Oconee State Park.  I first realized I wanted to be a park ranger when I was about 7 or 8 hiking in a state park with my dad.  I said, I wish I could do this all the time, and he jokingly said, maybe you should grow up to be a park ranger. From then on, I had a single-minded goal of being a park ranger.  My interests have continued to focus on the outdoors and conservation, so that track never wavered for me.  It was a career I was born to do.

I love the swimming lake and the Lake Trail that circles the lake at Oconee.  The lake is very peaceful with a variety of wildlife to view.  While walking the Lake Trail, you can see beavers, ducks, fish, turtles, frogs and more, while also viewing several of the historic cabins.  I really enjoy walking the trail with my dog and enjoying the scenery.

A first time visitor to Oconee State Park should definitely rent one of our boats and spend some time on the lake.  We rent pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards and jon boats, so there is something for everyone!

**Our Ultimate Outsider stamp is located inside the office during operating hours and on the front porch of the office just by the office door.

Oconee State Park has all of the perks of a relaxing mountain getaway. The Oconee State Park campground, Rustic, CCC-era cabins and a lake with a swimming hole, canoe rentals and fishing opportunities are only a sample of the park’s offerings.

Several wooded nature trails wind through the foothills region and serve as the southern trailhead for the Foothills Trail, South Carolina’s 77-mile wilderness hike on the Blue Ridge Escarpment.

Oconee is the perfect place for a family getaway with nostalgic activities such as square dancing during the summer months, Fourth of July festivities and other holiday events.

Make plans to enjoy a weekend hiking the Foothills Trail, South Carolina fishing and boating or just hanging out at the Oconee State Park campground.
