TRAVEL ADVISORY

Please do not depend completely on GPS or online map routing when coming to Kings Mountain State Park.  Directions are written out below for your convenience.

From I-85 Southbound (coming from Charlotte): Take exit 8, turn left onto Hwy 161, go across NC/SC state line and park entrance will be on the right.  Once you turn into the park, the campground/day-use area entrance will be on your right, just before the park office.

From I-85 Northbound (coming from Spartanburg): Take NC exit 2, onto Hwy 216/Park Road/705/Battleground Rd. Turn right and travel approximately five miles through the National Park and the park office will be on the right.  As your pass the park office, the campground/day-use area will be on your left.

From I-77:Take exit for Hwy 5 toward Rock Hill. Follow Hwy 5 through Rock Hill to York. In York, turn N onto Hwy 321, then bear left onto Hwy 161, entrance will be on the left.  Once you turn into the park, the campground/day-use area entrance will be on your right, just before the park office.

Camping

  • Camping Information: Each site is packed gravel and includes individual water and electrical hookups. Several sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. The campground is convenient to restroom facilities with hot showers. While tent campers may use the main camping area, the park offers a designated tent site area which includes central water.

  • Camping Reservations: To make a camping reservation, call toll-free 1-866-345-PARK (7275) or make it online by clicking the Park Reservations banner.

    Camping reservations must be made for a minimum of two nights. Reservations requested less than one (1) day in advance of check-in must be made directly through the park. For example: If today is Friday and you are making a reservation checking in on today, Friday, you must make the reservation by contacting the park directly. To make equestrian campsite reservations, you must call the park directly at 803-222-3209.

  • Standard Sites with Elec. & Water: 115 sites rent for $17-421/site/night. Rates are subject to change. Discounted rates are available for seasons of lower demand. Note: Rates listed do not include applicable sales tax and nonrefundable reservation costs.

  • Designated Tent Sites: 10 tent sites with no water and electricity rent for $13-$16/site/night. Rates are subject to change. Discounted rates may be available for seasons of lower demand. Note: Rates listed do not include applicable sales tax and nonrefundable reservation costs.

  • Dump Station: Yes
  • Primitive Group Area: The primitive group camping area is ideal for organized groups up to 30 people. The area has central water and is located near privy toilets. Reservations are accepted.

    To make a primitive group camping reservation, contact the park directly. Minimum rate is $10 -12.50 which allows up to ten campers. The rate increases by $5-6.50 increments for each additional five campers.
