Start Your Year with Adventure: Join a First Day Hike in South Carolina State Parks!

Message From The Director

The holiday season may feel like a whirlwind, but as the year draws to a close, there’s no better time to reflect and plan for a refreshing start to 2025. South Carolina State Parks have been bustling with activity—recovering from storms, celebrating retirements, wrapping up engaging programs like the Dashing Through the Parks scavenger hunt, and preparing to welcome visitors this season. Now, we’re thrilled to continue the tradition that makes the New Year truly special: First Day Hikes!

Since 1992, First Day Hikes have become a cherished tradition across the nation, inspiring people to embrace the outdoors with over 1,000 hikes happening on January 1st. South Carolina’s State Parks are proud to be part of this movement, offering unique opportunities to explore our state’s natural and cultural treasures. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or a first-time hiker, there’s a trail—and an experience—waiting for you.

Begin the year immersed in South Carolina’s breathtaking landscapes, from serene coastal views to lush mountain forests. Fresh air, exercise, and the calming beauty of nature set the tone for a positive year ahead. Whether hiking with family, friends, or on your own, these moments will inspire and uplift you.

Our staff has planned a variety of hikes for you that we hope showcase the diverse beauty of your parks. Whether you’re exploring pristine beaches, tranquil lakes, or historic sites, there’s something on our list for everyone. Here are just a few of the exciting options to kick off your year:
