Chainsaw Safety Training

Teams & Recognition

Earlier this month, park staff from across South Carolina gathered at Hickory Knob State Resort Park for a Basic Limbing and Bucking Chainsaw Safety class, part of the South Carolina State Park Service’s ongoing statewide training efforts.

The training focused on safe and effective chainsaw operation, with participants learning key techniques for limbing and bucking. A live demonstration showcased the effectiveness of chainsaw chaps, illustrating how proper safety gear can prevent serious injuries during a simulated chainsaw strike. The exercise served as a valuable reminder of the importance of preparation, awareness, and equipment when working in the field.

Beyond the technical skills, what stood out most during the training was the commitment and camaraderie of those involved. The dedication, teamwork, and eagerness to learn displayed by our rangers and maintenance staff reflect the very best of the South Carolina State Park Service.

As one instructor noted, “Their respect for the craft, their hunger to grow, and the way they supported one another reminded me why we do what we do.”

Thanks to everyone who participated for making safety and leadership a top priority. With this kind of enthusiasm and teamwork, the future of our parks is in great hands.
