Creatures of the Night
At Huntington Beach State Park
Join us for an exploration of the haunting world of creatures of the night! We’ll start our journey into the world of nocturnal wildlife on the beach, learning to safely catch (and then release) those eerie ghost crabs. OK, maybe they’re more fast and pinchy than scary, but cool nevertheless! After that fun, we’ll follow a path through the dunes to uncover a spooky castle: Atalaya! As we explore its darkened corridors, we’ll use echo meters, specialized tools designed to identify bats by their acoustic signature: the echolocation sounds they emit to find their prey! We’ll then finish our journey by taking a walk down the straight road, bordered by 2 marshes, where we may see alligators, spiders, or owls using our UV flashlights.
