Happy New Year! Let's start your New Year's resolution out on the right foot and hit a state park trail. Join a ranger at Landsford Canal State Park and enjoy the Nature Trail along the banks of the Catawba River. Our hike follows the Catawba River for about ½ mile to the eagle nest viewing area. Eagles are very elusive wildlife, but Landsford has a resident pair that nests here year after year. Our eagles lay their egg(s) around the end of February, so early January may offer chances to view them working on their nest! Along the way there can be other wildlife viewing opportunities as the river provides food and shelter for great blue herons, otters, and several species of ducks just to name a few. The trail is fairly level and surfaced in crushed asphalt.
