Interpretive Ranger Scott Stegenga
Park Service Profiles
This November marks the 22nd year that Scott Stegenga has been with the South Carolina State Park Service as the Interpreter II at Table Rock State Park in Pickens. On any given day he provides programming and interpretation to school groups or other park visitors, manages park resource projects and inventory, and administers trail maintenance and improvements.
Though it sounds straight forward on paper, Scott’s job provides plenty of variety. Whether it is watching an owl perch nearby and answer calls during a college field trip, or even getting hit by an apple core thrown from a rock outcrop far above…Scott enjoys being outdoors and that things always stay interesting.
His favorite feature of Table Rock State Park?
“Rock outcrops,” Scott said. “These beautiful areas are remote and provide impressive views and a great connection with nature.”
Scott grew up on a farm in Hollandale, Minnesota and received his BA in Biology from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He currently lives in Pickens and enjoys birding, hiking and golf.
