Administrative Specialist Robin Fulton
Park Service Profiles
For Administrative Specialist Robin Fulton, working at Cheraw State Park means being part of something bigger than herself. Whether she’s greeting guests, helping with reservations, or managing the details that keep the park running smoothly, Robin plays a key role in ensuring every visitor’s experience is memorable.
Born and raised in Chesterfield, South Carolina, Robin has deep roots in the community she now serves. She graduated from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in chemistry with collaterals in physics and biology. Her path to the South Carolina State Park Service began in 2019, and she’s proudly called Cheraw home ever since.
Before starting her new role, Robin took time to prepare by researching the park system and visiting Cheraw to get a feel for its operations, and even joined her husband for a round of golf along the way. Once she joined the team, she quickly became an essential part of daily park life.
“As an Administrative Specialist, all the activities I perform help contribute to the smooth running of the day-to-day operation of the park,” she said. “I take calls, make reservations, run the park office shop, handle boat rentals, do check-ins and check-outs, and I am a walking, talking, answering-questions machine!”
Her favorite part of the job, though, is connecting with people. “One of my favorite parts of my job is talking with the visitors that come through the park office door,” she shared. “Everyone is different, and they come out to Cheraw for different reasons. I really enjoy getting to know our regular guests and doing our yearly catch-ups when they visit Cheraw.”
While she finds joy in her work, Robin admits one of the hardest parts of her job is saying goodbye to coworkers who move on to new roles within the park service. “The people you work with do become family, and you are proud of them, but you hate to see them go,” she said.
Robin encourages anyone who loves nature and enjoys helping others to consider a career with South Carolina State Parks. “If you enjoy and respect nature, like hands-on work, and take pride and joy in the quality of experience you give to park visitors, this is the place for you,” she said.
Her advice for those interested in the field? “Do your research on the park service, learn some history, and spend time in different parks. Talk to the staff and other visitors, do a little volunteering, or join the team as a part-time worker.”
When she’s not in the office, Robin is working on her Ultimate Outsider journey, a family tradition that began over a decade ago. “My dad and I started collecting SC State Park stamps about 12 years ago, then life happened and we stopped,” she said. “When I started with the park service, stamp collecting picked back up, and I’m currently collecting stamps with my children. We have 28 stamps collected and some pretty awesome memories as well.”
The next stops on her list? Poinsett and Woods Bay state parks.
For Robin, working at Cheraw is more than a job; it’s a way to help others discover the same love for parks that she’s had all her life. “I’m the front line of the customer’s park experience,” she said. “I help to keep customers coming back to Cheraw State Park.”
