During the American Civil War, many animals found themselves adopted as pets and mascots by different units of troops or sometimes by individual soldiers. Occasionally they left home with their person when he went to war. Some would become famous, some were brave, and some stayed back from the fighting, but they all helped their human companions in one way or another over the course of the war. During this program we will tell some of their stories and take a look at how important these civil war pets were to the men who loved them.
