At Battle of Rivers Bridge State Historic Site


Started in 1876 to remember the Confederate dead from the Battle of Rivers Bridge, the annual meeting of the Rivers Bridge Memorial Association has a strong history of special speakers and presentations and remembers the names of the Confederate soldiers who died on this hallowed ground. The Rivers Bridge Confederate Memorial Association will present its 149th annual commemoration on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the Memorial Grounds on the Battle of Rivers Bridge State Historic Site, located at 325 State Park Road, near Ehrhardt, S.C. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. with music, followed at 11:00 a.m. by commemorative activities dedicated to the memory of the Confederate soldiers who fought and died at Rivers Bridge in February of 1865. The keynote speaker will be Dr. William Sharbrough, who taught at The Citadel from 1985 to 2018. The topic of his address will be Lt. S.S. Kirby, who lost his life commanding the guns near the conclusion of the battle. After the ceremonies, barbecue sandwiches will be available for purchase, along with complimentary homemade lemonade.
