What Happened at Hanging Rock?

At Andrew Jackson State Park

At the tender age of 13, Andrew Jackson set foot on his first field of battle. Later in life, the war hero and seventh President claimed to have learned all of his military skills from the brave men who fought at Hanging Rock. Join us for a presentation about the Battle of Hanging Rock that happened nearly 237 years ago. Learn more about this Revolutionary War battle and hear the stories of the soldiers who were there. Visit the granite outcropping that has served as a natural landmark for generations. The Hanging Rock is located 2 miles south of Heath Springs. Take Flat Rock Road to Hanging Rock Road. On Hanging Rock Road, proceed across Hanging Rock Creek and parking will be along the road. We will have the program on the topside of the Hanging Rock. Please note that there are no restroom facilities at the site and the trails are rated moderate to difficult. Please wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes and bring a sunscreen, insect repellent, a chair and water. Hanging Rock State Historic Site is a satellite site of Andrew Jackson State Park.
