Become A Junior Ranger

Do you enjoy having fun outdoors? Do you want to learn about the wonderful natural and cultural resources the State of South Carolina has to offer? If so, you would make a great Junior Ranger for the South Carolina State Park Service!

The goal of the Junior Ranger program is to Educate, Entertain, and Inspire. We want to educate you about fun opportunities to get outside and learn about the natural and cultural resources available at South Carolina State Parks. We want to entertain you while you are visiting a State Park. And, we want to inspire you to become more involved in State Parks and the outdoor world.

As a Junior Ranger, it will be your duty to Educate, Entertain, and Inspire others. You will educate others about the natural and cultural resources found in State Parks; entertain others, such as your family and friends, by having fun in the outdoors; and inspire others to get outside and enjoy the natural world.

So, do you think you would like to be a Junior Ranger? Here’s how you do it:

1. Get Permission

First, get your parents' permission. Having fun with your entire family is an important part of the Junior Ranger program. Also, you will need to involve your parents to make sure that you are safe and having fun.

2. Get Active

Next, complete all the Junior Ranger Activities. First, you’ll print out the activity sheets which contain all of the activities you’ll need to do to become a Junior Ranger. They’re fun and can be completed by visiting any State Park, and once you’ve completed the activities in a level, a Park Ranger will check them and you’ll receive a cool reward before moving on to the next level!

The activities are broken into 3 levels and once you’ve completed the activities in one level, a Park Ranger will check them, you will receive a cool reward, and you can move on to the next level!

You will begin with the Junior Ranger Level I activities.

Once you complete the Junior Level I activities and have a Park Ranger check them, you’re ready for the Junior Level II activities.

After you’ve completed and been checked on Junior Level II activities, you’re ready to complete the final level of Junior Ranger III.

3. Get Involved

As a Junior Ranger, you’ll play an important role in keeping our State Parks a special place for you, your friends and family, and all the animals and plants that live there for years to come! Those are what we call the Duties of a Junior Ranger.

So, do you think you have what it takes to become a Junior Ranger for the South Carolina State Park Service? If so, let’s get started! Remember our goals: Educate, Entertain, and Inspire. And, above all, have fun!
