Slavery and War in Aiken County through the Reconstruction Era and Beyond

At Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site

Join Dr. Walter Curry, Mr. Wayne O’Bryant, and Mr. Jerome Gaines for a presentation and discussion on slavery, Civil War, and Reconstruction Era events leading up to the founding of Aiken County and beyond. This is an opportunity to learn about enslaved people and sharecroppers from their descendants, and the presentation will feature the personal family histories of the hosts and how local history ties into their families' stories. After the presentation, Dr. Walter Curry will be available to sign copies of his books The Thompson Family: Untold Stories from the Past and The Awakening: The Seawright-Ellison Family Saga, Vol.1, A Narrative History, which will be offered for purchased in our gift shop as well as at renaissancepubllc.com. $10 per person. Registration required at 803-827-1473 or redcliffe@scprt.com
