Join South Carolina Chef Ambassador Kevin Mitchell for an exclusive signing of his newly published book, Taste the State: South Carolina’s Signature Foods, Recipes, and Their Stories, followed by a tasting of one of the featured dishes. Co-written with Southern food historian Dr. David Shields, Taste the State presents surprising stories and engaging profiles of 82 of South Carolina’s most distinctive ingredients, such as Carolina Gold rice, Sea Island White Flint corn, and the cone-shaped Charleston Wakefield cabbage. Mitchell and Shields celebrate ingredients and techniques that were contributed by Native Americans, Gullah-Geechee, and European settlers, and melded into Carolina cooking.
