Animal Forest: Enrichment Day

At Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site

We all need our lives enriched – seeing a movie on Friday night, going to a playground, eating at your favorite restaurant. Going through the same motions day after day wears on everyone, and everything. Variety is the spice of life, as the saying goes - especially if you live in a zoo! So, zookeepers regularly develop creative ways to enrich the lives of the animals in their care. The “toys” that they create keep the animals active and engaged, which makes them healthier. On March 11, as part of the Enrichment Day festivities, you will have the opportunity to meet Jim Fowler. Mr. Fowler was instrumental in the design and creation of the Animal Forest at Charles Towne Landing in 1970. Please join us as Jim Fowler welcomes two new animals to the collection. We are pleased to announce that we are again home to an elk and for the first time in our 47 years we will be home to a bald eagle. Your home pet could benefit from enrichment, too. Come out to the Animal Forest at Charles Towne Landing and see what toys our animals enjoy, and maybe even leave with some ideas that will enrich the life of your “best friend.”
