New displays in three of the South Carolina Welcome Centers invite visitors to “Come Out and Play” in the South Carolina State Parks during the year-long 75th anniversary celebration. Life-like Displays
Installed at the Landrum, Blacksburg and Hardeeville welcome centers, the displays feature life-like mannequins dressed like they are ready for a day of outdoor recreation. An over-sized background depicts a beautiful state park water scene complete with a kayak. The display also has a memory book in place with photos and vignettes of adventures to encourage guests to consider a park visit or vacation for fun filled memories. The clothing of the mannequins is hand-painted and their features are artistically enhanced with hand-painting to make them appear more life-like. The teenage and youth mannequins were then outfitted for various activities such as hiking, kayaking and canoeing. The State Park 75th Anniversary Celebration features special events at parks across the state into April 2009, when the actual anniversary date occurs.
