Lily Fest

Landsford Canal State Park is home to the world’s largest population of Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies. These beautiful flowers bloom each year along the Catawba River and can be viewed from the park from May through mid-June. A 1.5-mile, round trip hike down the Canal Trail takes you to an overlook where the spider lilies can be best viewed.

Lilyfest was held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from noon until 5 p.m.

Check back each week during lily season for a Lily Watch Update and information on when you can expect peak lily viewing at Landsford.  Also, take a look at our video that tells you more about the Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies.

Lily Update- June 1, 2017

The water in the Catawba River has come back down to normal levels and the lilies are recovering nicely. While they probably won't recover to full peak, they are around 70% and should stay that way for the next week or so, as long as we don't get more drenching rains.

Lily Update - May 25, 2017

Due to heavy rains the river has been running high and the lilies have been under water for days. This damages flowers, but not the plants, so once the water gets back to normal and the lilies have a few days to recover, blooms should look nice. Since weather and water levels change daily we will update again as soon as water levels stabilize. Please check our FAQ page to check the river levels before coming to paddle. Levels of 3000 cubic feet per second are ideal.

Lily Update - May 15, 2017

This past weekend, lilies are at about 60% bloom.  Peak should arrive late this week and last until about mid-June.

Lily Update - May 5, 2017

Due to heavy rain in the area, the lilies were under water for over a week and are starting to recover. Blooms are spotty but the lilies appear to be around 20-25% in bloom. This should be the time they start to increase in numbers which means we may be close to peak by Mother’s Day weekend without any serious rain events.

Lily Update - April 24, 2017

The first few blooms of lily season are here!  As of today, blooms are at 1-2%.  This means we are close to normal timing and peak bloom should start in two to three weeks.  Check back each week for updates and more information.
