Travel Advisory

2/10/2017

SPECIAL ALERT (1/20/17) - TABLE ROCK STATE PARK Trail Update:  The Carrick Creek Trail, the Table Rock Trail, Pinnacle Mountain Trail, Ridge Trail, the Palmetto Trail and the Foothills Trail are now open at Table Rock.  The trail to the Carrick Creek Falls Overlook and the CCC Lakeside Trail are also open.

, Mill Creek Pass and the Mill Creek Falls Spur Trail are still closed due to damage from the recent wildfires.  When hiking at Table Rock, please stay on the marked trails.  Unsafe conditions still exist in areas away from the trails, due to recent wildfires.

EDISTO BEACH OPENING! (11/18/16) We are happy to announce that Edisto Beach State Park is OPEN, after being closed for over a month to recover from Hurricane Matthew. The beachfront day-use area, Live Oak Campground, cabins, education center and boat ramp have all resumed normal operating hours. The oceanfront campground will remain closed while undergoing repairs and is expected to open in September 2017.

UPDATE (10/14/16):  Although the majority of Hunting Island State Park is closed to visitors, the park’s Nature Center will open starting Wednesday, Oct. 19. Its operating hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and the staff will provide basic information about the park and its recovery.

As we have reported, 15 of our state parks suffered damage from Hurricane Matthew and are currently closed.  The good news is, we hope to have the majority of these parks open and welcoming visitors within the next week.  Our coastal parks were hardest hit.  We are working diligently at Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park to make repairs and open these two parks by the last week of October.

Unfortunately, Edisto Beach and Hunting Island state parks suffered the greatest damage.  It will take months of work before these parks will reopen.  We do hope that a portion of Edisto Beach State Park will reopen in late November offering cabin stays and camping opportunities in our Live Oak campground.

If you have pending reservations at any of these parks and need more information, please contact the call center at 1-866-345-PARK (7275) for assistance. Please be patient as we are expecting higher than normal call volume during this period.

As of now, we are in the process of cancelling and refunding reservations at the following parks:
  • Hunting Island State Park – All campsite reservations will be cancelled and refunded through Sunday, May 21, 2017.
Oceanside campsite reservations will be cancelled and refunded through Sunday, December 31, 2017.
  • Edisto Beach State Park – All campsite reservations in the oceanfront campground will be cancelled and refunded through Thursday, August 31, 2017.
Please stay tuned to our website and social media.  As openings and changes occur, information will be posted there. We appreciate your concern and thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

The following parks are currently closed due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew (as of 11/11/16):

  • Edisto Beach State Park - all areas of the park except the trails and the oceanfront campground will open Nov.18
  • Hunting Island State Park
