Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten or harass wildlife. Pets are not allowed in or around cabins, cabin areas or other lodging facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is swimming allowed at Kings Mountain State Park?

We do not allow swimming in our lakes at Kings Mountain State Park.  Our designated swimming area was closed in 2002.

Where is the mountain the park is named for?

Kings Mountain is actually named for Kings Pinnacle which is located in Crowders Mountain State Park, NC.

Do you have cabins at Kings Mountain State Park?

We do have rustic cabins at our group camps.  These cabins are not rented on an individual basis.  The entire unit must be rented.

Do you have campsites on the lakes?

Our campsites are not located on the lake; however, they are located in close proximity to 13 acre Lake Crawford.

Is a Coggins test required for my horse?

A Coggins test is required on the park. Please bring your papers with you to the park. For further information (crossing state lines) please visit the South Carolina Equine Import Requirements. You may also read the South Carolina Animal Health Laws and Regulations.

Is there a battlefield at Kings Moutain State Park?

The Battle of Kings Mountain is preserved, maintained, and interpreted by Kings Mountain National Military Park.  It is located adjacent to the western boundary of Kings Mountain State Park.

Are there mountain bike trails at the park?

At this time we do not have bike trails at Kings Mountain State Park.  Visitors are allowed to ride our paved roads in the park as long as the admission is paid.

Is panning for gold permitted at Kings Mountain State Park?

Panning for gold is not permitted due to the fact that there are no parking areas to allow access to the creeks on the park.  Also it is not allowed because these creeks run into the National Park.  To help in their mission of preserving the resource we do not allow panning for gold to prevent any adverse effects on our downstream neighbors.

Are all of the buildings at the Living History Farm original to that site?

The buildings on the Living History Farm are a conglomeration from many old farm sites in the area.  These building were assembled at their present location in the mid-late 1970’s.

Do you need a permit to operate a golf cart at the park?

If you are a South Carolina resident your golf cart must be registered with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and display the registration tag.  Out of state guests will be required proof of liability insurance prior to operation of their cart on park property.

Is a fishing license required to fish at Kings Mountain State Park?

Yes, you do need a valid South Carolina fishing license.  You can obtain a license by contacting the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Where is the park’s Ultimate Outsider stamp located?

Our Ultimate Outsider stamps are located at the Farm Privy and the Trailhead Kiosk.
