Huntington Beach State Park is a dog friendly park year round. Please keep in mind that all dogs must remain on a leash no longer than six feet at all times. Please clean up after your pet. Dogs are allowed on the south end of the beach. Dogs are prohibited in buildings, including Atalaya and on the north end of the beach. The north end extends from the beach access at the north parking lot to the jetty.

Things To Do

Explore the Huntington Beach State Park Nature Center! 


  • The Nature Center:  The Nature Center at Huntington Beach State Park is filled with exhibits displaying the bird and marine life of the area.  One of the most popular exhibits in the touch tank with local species of marine life. There is a birding exhibit and an alligator exhibit along with many aquariums. The Nature Center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.
  • Fishing Information: Surf fishing and fishing from the jetty are popular pastimes for guests. A valid S.C. fishing license is required.

  • Boating and Boat Access: To access the inlet, a boat ramp is located one mile from the park entrance at Oyster Landing.

  • Boating: Yes
  • Wireless Internet Access: Complimentary wi-fi is available in our campground and at the park Visitor Center. Please check at the Visitor Center for password information.

  • Park Store/Gift Shop: The Gift Shop at Huntington Beach State Park is located adjacent to the South Beach Access. It is open daily and offers drinks and snacks, gifts, apparel, souvenirs, firewood, and ice. Spoonbills Ice Cream is located adjacent to the South Beach Access. It is open daily and offers hand-dipped ice cream, frozen carbonated drinks, soft drinks and bottled water.
  • Picnic Shelters: Yes
  • Swimming: Swimming is allowed in the Atlantic Ocean at your own risk. We do not have lifeguards.

  • Bird Watching: The park is known as one of the best birding sites in the Southeast. A wide variety of birds can be seen at various locations throughout the park, year round. Visit the Nature Center for more information.

  • Geocaching: Geocaching is permitted. Several geocaches are located on the park. For more information visit the official geocaching website.

  • Biking: Yes
  • Birding: Yes
  • Hiking Trails: The two mile Sandpiper Pond Trail is ideal for hiking.

  • Interpretive Trails: The 1/4-mile Kerrigan Trail and numerous boardwalks extend out into the saltmarsh and freshwater lagoon for exceptional wildlife viewing.
