PARK NEWS

Portions of Hamilton Branch State Park that are OPEN include: campsites 1-60, the boat ramp and playground. The General Store (park office & retail) will be open 9am-5pm, daily. All other campsites and picnic shelters will remain closed while cleanup continues.

Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. Owners will be asked to remove noisy or dangerous pets or pets that threaten or harass wildlife.

Things To Do

  • Fishing Information: Enjoy fishing in Strom Thurmond Lake for bass, bream, crappie, striper, hybrid bass and catfish. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.

  • Tackle Loaner Program: This park participates in the Tackle Loaner Program sponsored by the SC Dept. of Natural Resources. Rods and reels are available for loan at the park office.

  • Boating and Boat Access: Two boat ramps provide private boat access to Strom Thurmond Lake.

  • Park Store/Gift Shop: The park office has fishing bait, ice, firewood and limited souvenirs for sale.

  • Swimming: Swimming is permitted in Strom Thurmond Lake. There is no designated swimming area and lifeguards are not provided. You may swim at your own risk.

  • Bird Watching: The forests and lakeshore of Hamilton Branch are excellent places to view birds. Guests have the opportunity to see bald eagles, osprey and other migratory waterfowl.

  • Geocaching: Geocaching is permitted. Several geocaches are located on the park. For more information visit the official geocaching website.

    Bicycle Rentals: Bicycles are available to rent at the park office. Bikes are $10/day M-Th, $15/day F-Su and $25/weekend. For more information, please call or visit our park office.
