Robert Mahoney

Park Manager

Hello there!  I’m Robert Mahoney, manager of Cheraw State Park. Growing up in Sumter, SC, I always had a love for the outdoors. That love continued into hiking and nature photography hobbies. I went to school at Clemson University to major in parks management and wildlife and aquatics. I wanted to be a park ranger or a game warden. I am glad that I chose the park service.

My favorite thing to do at Cheraw State Park is hiking the boardwalk to the spillway. I walk the boardwalk several times throughout the week just to see picturesque Lake Juniper. The sunsets in the evening are brilliant, and it’s a great place to reminisce and reflect.

There’s so much to do at Cheraw State Park. I suggest that all park visitors come to Cheraw State Park and explore. Take a walk on the boardwalk and make sure to bring your camera because you never know what you will see—a unique cloud formation, mystic fog or a beautiful sunset. See you soon at Cheraw.

**Our Ultimate Outsider stamp is located at the information kiosk in front of the main office next to the flag pole. We also have stamps in the park office and pro shop.

Cheraw State Park takes traditional recreational park activities to a new level of fun. The 18-hole, championship Cheraw State Park Golf Course winds its way through piney woodlands while maintaining and protecting the surrounding natural habitat of the park.

Cypress wetlands line Lake Juniper and can be explored by kayaks and canoes or via a boardwalk that runs along the lake. Try fishing from the boardwalk or by boat, or take time to explore other areas of Cheraw on the park’s extensive biking and hiking trails.

For overnight accommodations at Cheraw, cabins and campsites are available.
