Ranger John’s Top 5 Reasons to Go Camping
#5 You’ve never been. Quit making those excuses and pack up the family. Camping is an experience that everyone needs to try at least once. It gives you chance to commune with nature, and it provides a relaxed atmosphere that we all need from time to time. Memories of camping with your family or friends will be some of your fondest – guaranteed.
#4 Its peaceful. No cell phones. OK, even some State Parks have cell phone reception now, but life moves so fast that stepping back and relaxing is a must for all of us. The relaxing, natural setting that our state parks provide allows you to slow down without even realizing that you have.
#3 Its educational! Whether you participate in a park-sponsored program with an interpreter, or discover something on your own, I guarantee you’ll learn something new every time you go camping, no matter how old you are.
#2 To experience nature. Sometimes we take the beautiful world around us for granted. Camping helps us reconnect with nature. You can sit at your campsite at Santee State Park and watch white-tailed deer feeding only a few feet away, or camp at Lake Wateree State Recreation Area and watch squirrels slowly inching closer to your Planters peanuts. These experiences, and others like these, are priceless!
#1 Its fun, of course! Camping is an exciting and fun activity that is sure to please everyone. The excitement of being outside under the stars, seeing the sights, smelling the smells, makes camping an exciting and memorable experience for the whole family to enjoy. You can sing songs by the campfire, play cards on the picnic table, or tell jokes to the break of dawn.
