Reserve America’s ‘Top 100’ Fete S.C. Parks

Fifteen of South Carolina’s 47 state parks are on the list of parks recognized across the country in ReserveAmerica’s annual Outdoor Recreation Awards.

Two of the parks were listed in two categories each.

Dreher Island State Recreation Area on Lake Murray in “America’s Top 100 Family Campgrounds” and “Top 25 Water Recreation Parks”

Santee State Park on Lake Marion in “America’s Top 100 Family Campgrounds” and “Top 50 Fishing Spots.”

The annual awards are based on testimonials, campground ratings and feedback from rangers, park management and campers at more than 4,000 parks nationwide.

South Carolina state parks named in the various categories for 2009 are:

America’s Top 100 Family Campgrounds: Chester State Park, Devils Fork State Park, Dreher Island State Recreation Area, Lake Greenwood State Recreation Area, Santee State Park.
Top 25 Amazing Spots: Table Rock State Park
Top 25 Biking Trails: Croft State Natural Area
Top 25 Bird-Watching Spots: Caesars Head State Park
Top 25 Canoeing Spots: N.R. Goodale State Park
Top 50 Fishing Spots: Lake Warren State Park, Santee State Park
Top 50 Hiking Trails: Oconee State Park
Top 25 Horse-Friendly Parks: H. Cooper Black Memorial Field Trial & Recreation Area
Top 25 Park Beaches: Myrtle Beach State Park
Top 25 Picnic Areas: Jones Gap State Park
Top 50 Scenic Views: Landsford Canal State Park
Top 25 Water Recreation Parks: Dreher Island State Recreation Area
